NEWS:
Recent JOAD State results
Congratulations to Karena Spratt for taking BRONZE at the JOAD State Championships.
This was a challenging tournament, using only the longest distance each archer would be required to shoot for their division, wind was high and irregular.

Upcoming Tournaments
JOAD Nationals July 1-5, and GA Games: July 11.

Class plans: Balloon Shoot & Knock Out Games! 3 arrows
This week, we will have the balloon shoot game along with the "Knock-out" game. Everyone, please stretch out, get your gear set up.
We will have a few warm up rounds of "knock-out" and start the games.

Knock-Out:
Strategy and skill as a warm up game...3 arrows.
First round: red and better scored arrows are kept to shoot for the next round.
Next round "8" and better scored arrows are kept (arrows are getting down to one or two in a quiver ,and usually only a few competitors are still standing.)
Down to Gold!!!(with what's left in your quiver)
(those Knocked-out, may begin practice for the balloon games)

Balloon Shoot:
All students:
The idea is shoot YOUR balloon first, before your competitor pops theirs. Once you have shot yours, you shoot for theirs.
Advanced and intermediate archers (or white star and up, or with your own equipment) will  select 2 balloons from a small balloon bag to blow up and put in the big bag with your symbol or initial. All others choose one from the regular size balloon bag.
Advanced/Intermediate students must shoot both their balloons, before proceeding to another advanced/Intermediate students remaining balloons.
If you shoot your competitors balloon first accidentally-they win and they move to the next round . You are out a round,  but can restart shooting with others independent of the 1st game, to create an underlying game.
Strategy is important.
Timing is important.
This is a training game for handling nerves, and gaining focus. Use the skills we've trained for in these games!!

Please arrive a few minutes early to gear up and check in.
To participate , please sign up on the doodle link so we have enough equipment and staff available

Parents, please share the class plan info with your students!!
Any student participating in class needs minimum USA Archery “RECREATIONAL” membership ($15)).
You will need a current  Learn Archery membership   with the USA Archery full membership to earn rank and receive pins/lanyards.

Archery Class Training Details: SCORE
BASICS:
Indoor distances are either 9 or 18 meters, with either a 60 or 40 cm face.
New students ( adult or youth) will be assigned 9 meter distances as this class is designed to offer the fundamentals of scoring, while providing continued training to enable students to progress to further distances.

Each month, on the third weekend we score.
Great opportunity to learn the ins and outs of what each ring is worth, the power of the lines that edge the rings, what arrows may help in a strategy to gain points, and how to keep score.
If students are a member of the Learn Archery & USA Archery JOAD/SOAD program, they can use this session to earn rank and pin awards. This continual "dry-run" makes scoring at a Tournament event more comfortable .
Youth are to learn how to do this, independent of parental supervision.

Scoring Class Basics:
  • Please arrive early to obtain and fill out your score card with name, distance, and date .
  • First scoring arrow begins at time slot of session. Arrive early  to have practice/sight-in shots.
  • In order to complete the 30 arrows for indoors, students must be geared up and on the line at start of class, with scorecard filled out and ready to go.
  • Those with their own arrows may shoot 6 arrows each end which will allow completion of scorecard if "on time" start.
  • Earning pins? must be both a USA Archery Youth, Adult or Family member & Learn Archery JOAD or SOAD member- print USA Archery membership card
  • Those seasoned JOAD SOAD members using program arrows will start with three arrows, unless class numbers permit 6 arrows each end. ( student may not finish in time allotted if using only 3 arrows).
  • New students focus will be to learn protocol, and how to complete the score cards, and will shoot 3 arrows per end (will not end with a completed a score card due to time considerations.) Adults not scoring at their appropriate distance of 18 meters with correct 40 cm size faces, or students not members of JOAD/SOAD and using program arrows will use 3 arrows each end for time considerations for those earning rank , and may not end with a completed card.

Parents, please share the class plan info with your students!!

June 13 & 14, Basic Process Training: "Holding"

Summer Camp Sessions final day Friday! We had a great time!
If we have any new training sessions scheduled we will post the info on the blog, email announcement and the home page at www.learnarchery.com

Training: "Basic Process training; "Holding"

A great way to practice the process, particularly when preparing for tournaments is to work with your stretch bands. You can also work on "holding" to develop endurance using your own equipment in front of a mirror, noting form elements that need correction, and time your holds. Start with no more than 30 seconds in best form (or less).Rest for twice as long. When your hold becomes deteriorated in form, stop. Don't practice bad habits. Keep the focus on form: hips and shoulders at different angles, head in a box, front bow arm shoulder down, alignment, back tension and use of back tension, and endurance.
We will review basic training elements, and "holding"
