AUG 26 & 27: Correcting bowarm drop at anchoring; New September Schedules

We hope you will come out and shoot with us this weekend!

For the new archers, if you'd like to join us- please ARRIVE EARLY TO GET YOUR GEAR AND BE ON LINE AT THE CLASS START TIME.

 ANNOUNCEMENT:
September: Class schedules change beginning September 9.
Specifics to follow in separate email, and sent via  USA Archery Club Membership to current Learn Archery club members, and during classes

Training August 26 & 27:
Dropping bow sight down onto target face.

Many students correctly bring their bow up to the "see your shot" position at eye level with the string hand, and bow hand extended and slightly higher above the target face, but as they draw back to anchor they incorrectly allow their bow hand to fall lower than the gold and must then start a new set of back bow-arm muscles to pull the bow arm back up to center the sight onto the gold. We will train to correct this during class this week.

Parents, please share the class plan info with your students!!

_______________________________________________
SCORE BASICS:
Indoor distances are either 9 or 18 meters, with either a 60 or 40 cm face.
New students ( adult or youth) will be assigned 9 meter distances as this class is designed to offer the fundamentals of scoring, while providing continued training to enable students to progress to further distances.

Each month, on the third weekend we score.
Great opportunity to learn the ins and outs of what each ring is worth, the power of the lines that edge the rings, what arrows may help in a strategy to gain points, and how to keep score.
Current students that are members of the Learn Archery & USA Archery JOAD/AAP program can use this session to earn rank and pin awards. This continual "dry-run" makes scoring at a Tournament event more comfortable .
Youth are to learn how to do this, independent of parental supervision.
Scoring Class Basics:

Please arrive early to obtain and fill out your score card with name, distance, and date .

  • First scoring arrow begins at time slot of session. Arrive early  to have practice/sight-in shots.
  • In order to complete the 30 arrows for indoors, students must be geared up and on the line at start of class, with scorecard filled out and ready to go.
  • Those with their own arrows may shoot 6 arrows each end which will allow completion of scorecard if "on time" start.
  • Earning pins? must be both a USA Archery Youth, Adult or Family member & Learn Archery JOAD or A member- print USA Archery membership card
  • Those seasoned JOAD AAP members using program arrows will start with three arrows, unless class numbers permit 6 arrows each end. ( student may not finish in time allotted if using only 3 arrows).
  • New students focus will be to learn protocol, and how to complete the score cards, and will shoot 3 arrows per end (will not end with a completed a score card due to time considerations.) Adults not scoring at their appropriate distance of 18 meters with correct 40 cm size faces, or students not members of JOAD/AAP and using program arrows will use 3 arrows each end for time considerations for those earning rank , and may not end with a completed card.
Any student participating in class needs minimum USA Archery “RECREATIONAL” membership ($15). See below.
2.Join online for USA Archery membership. USA Archery JOAD(youth)/AAP(adult) Membership Application
(You can upgrade your EXISTING USA recreational  membership during the year if desired.)

August 5 & 6 2017: Be Fluid

We hope you will come out and shoot with us this weekend!

For the new archers, if you'd like to join us- please ARRIVE 20 minutes EARLY TO GET YOUR GEAR AND BE ON LINE AT THE CLASS START TIME.

NEWS:
Class Schedules will be changing. No Classes next Sunday August 13

Training August 5th & 6th

Training: Relax!-Be fluid!
The elite archers step up, set their feet, and begin the "process". Watching them makes it look so effortless, but the work, mistakes, re-dos, sacrifices, do it again, again, again...all led to the appearance of "effortlessness".
Working to get the bones in alignment, muscles into familiar "hold", the mental "I am here, last arrow is gone, next has not been loaded", and the fluid movement to reach that holding, loaded back position-took practice. And the willingness to try something new.
This training session, we will work on routines, and fluid, relaxed, intentional movement, using only those muscles necessary to produce your shot. We will check our Lan 2 (a spot on the middle backside of your upper draw arm) to be aware that it moves along the shooting line and perpendicular to the arrow line, a rotation, to the back tension "holding" position, and, we will focus on the movement of the draw elbow.
